Promoted Posts are messages that appear pinned to the top of the Activity Feed in the app. Promoted Posts can contain up to 140 characters of text, and may also include an image (640x640 .png) or YouTube video, and a call-to-action button (buttons can be linked to an item or survey in the app, or to an external web page).
Note: in order to use video in your Promoted Post, your app must be on version 7.15 or higher. If you attempt to use the feature on a lower version the Promoted Post will not appear at all in the Activity Feed. To check your app version, go to the Settings section in your app and scroll to the bottom. Your app version will appear there.
If you would like to update your app, please reach out to customersupport@doubldutch.me. Keep in mind that app updates can take about one week.
To create a Promoted Post, follow these steps:
- Login to the DoubleDutch CMS and head to the Setup page, and then click 'Messages' on the left.
- Click '+ add messages' at the top and a box will appear that defaults to a megaphone icon to indicate a promoted post.
- Using no more than 140 characters, type your message in the “Compose a Promoted Message” box.
- Click the '+' icon on the bottom left of the box to add a link or photo to your promoted post.
To add an image to your Promoted Post, select 'add image', then select 'choose file' to upload your 640x640 .png image, and finally click 'add image' to attach it to your Promoted Post.
To add a video link to your Promoted Post, select 'add video link', then copy and paste the full URL in the text field. The video must be a public-facing or unlisted YouTube URL with embedding enabled.
To link your call-to-action button to an item in the app, survey, or external website, click the option you would like, enter the text you’d like to display on the call to action button in the “Link Text” box, then add the item you’d like to link to in the following box, and finally click 'Add Link' to save your call to action button.
Note: you can only link the call to action button to one item per Promoted Post. - Click the 'Schedule' button to select the time you’d like to send out the Promoted Post as well as how long to pin it to the top of the Activity Feed.
- Click 'Publish' to save your Promoted Post.

Can you target promoted posts so that they only appear for certain Groups?
Great question Colin! You can target different attendee segments for push notifications, but for promoted posts, those are visible to anyone viewing the Activity Feed.
The Image size 640x640 ist much to big for a promoted post.
Why isn´ t it possible to use smaller ones?
Any solution or workaround?
Hi Markus,
Great question! Since promoted posts are designed as a way to catch the attention of an attendee in the activity feed, the images attached should stand out. The size also allows the image to fit nicely in the feed. Something smaller wouldn't go the width of the screen and might look awkward.
That said, if you didn't want the whole image to be 640x640, you could create a smaller image that you just embed on a background that is 640x640.
Thats not a good solution.
640 width is o.k. But it should be possible to post a picture in Banner-Size.
Another question:
Not possible to link in promoted post to a list view.
Made a FAQ-Section with different items and want to point the user to read them ;-(
I'm trying to post something 140 characters or less and it won't let me post saying that there are too many characters
Hi Christine,
We're opening up a support ticket for you and one of our team members will be reaching out to you shortly!
I'd like to echo @Colin Ford. It would be very valuable to us to be able to target promoted posts to specific groups, as they contain images & links whereas push notifications are limited. Would very much like to see this ability developed.
Hi Matt,
Thanks for your post and sharing your thoughts here. We also have a dedicated discussion board in a different part of the support center where you can see what other customers are interested in and vote/comment on those, and post additional suggestions of your own. We'd love to hear any other suggestions or ideas as you continue to use the DoubleDutch platform. https://customersupport.doubledutch.me/hc/communities/public/topics/200199448-Feature-Requests-Product-Enhancements
Are there plans to include being able to post videos that are hosted on Vimeo in promoted posts as well as YouTube?
